Pure comedy. But honest too. Have I said that I love this. Understated humor is a scarce commodity in the American comedy pantheon, so much so that there are folks see reviews who miss the point entirely.
This series is brilliantly written, produced and acted, conveying the wry and incisive humor of its reluctant heroine as she faces a barrage of life-changing events.
Solid casting and interesting character juxtapositions. I look forward to more character development in the second season. The closest comparison I might make is to the series Maron, but Tig is infinitely more likeable and much less fatalistic.
Amazon, please continue production of this fantastic series. We need more of this kind of Bechdel-affirmative comedy featuring intelligent female leads who don't conform to Studio City norms.

I've seen a few of Ms. Notaro's televised stand-up performances, and while she's of a younger generation than I am, I found her routines refreshingly unique and entertaining.
But this show, isn't a stand-up routine. I've seen this series "One Mississippi" called a "comedy", or a "dark comedy", along with various other labels that don't do it justice.
There aren't many jokes in these episodes, there really aren't many situations that lead to "laugh out loud" comedy.
After binge watching all 12 episodes of the first and second seasons combined, what I can say is, this remarkable series is "genuine" in a way that defies most short format productions.
The characters develop and grow over time, and each reveals their own unique charm, and strengths and many flaws, but it's all done within the dynamic of the unique family living group that Ms.
Notaro manages to cobble together. Certainly as the central character, Ms. After the search, Tig begins recording her show at a local radio station and meets Kate, a local sound engineer and fan of her work.
